White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, who earned a reputation for acid putdowns of journalists, is to step down, President Donald Trump said, adding she would remain a senior advisor.

Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary, will leave the post at the end of August to spend more time with her family, President Donald Trump said Wednesday.

"Karoline will now be one of my top outside advisors and an influential voice within the Republican Party," says US President Donald Trump.

President Trump announced Wednesday that Leavitt would step away from the role at the end of this month.
