A bus carrying many schoolchildren and teenagers plunged into a ravine on Fogo, killing at least 25 people. Officials said the annual trip was privately arranged by the driver and was not organised by local schools.

The children were on an excursion to a village inside a volcanic crater, organised by the school bus driver.
