The US launched new air strikes ⁠on Iranian targets, quashing hopes that an exchange of fire last weekend might not presage a wider renewal of hostilities.

Iran launched strikes targeting American interests in Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan after vowing "severe punishment" in response to US attacks

Explosions were reported in and around the Strait of Hormuz, as well as at an airport in southern Iran. US President Trump described the strikes as "large and powerful." Iran said the US will "regret" its latest attacks.

In further escalation of US strikes, explosions were reported late on in Konarak and Chabahar in SE Iran, as well as Bandar Abbas in south.

The US struck targets in Iran and Tehran answered with missiles and drones. The renewed fighting has deepened fears over Hormuz shipping, regional security and nuclear oversight.

Iranian semiofficial media say the country has begun firing missiles and drones in response to U.S. strikes.

Sept. 1 (UPI) -- The U.S. military launched new strikes Tuesday on Iran, attacks that President Donald Trump said were in further retaliation for Iran's recent actions.

The strikes came two days after US forces hit Iranian rocket launchers in the Strait of Hormuz, ending a month-long lull in fighting. Iran called Sunday’s operation a deadly attack and retaliated by firing ballistic missiles at US bases in Jordan.
