A man who kept 19 people including 17 children hostage in a Mumbai studio on Thursday was shot dead by a policeman just as the gunman was about to aim at one of the hostages, sources said.

According to Mumbai Police, Arya fired at the police before they retaliated with a single round. He sustained injuries and later succumbed during treatment.

In Mumbai, Rohit Arya held 19 people hostage, including 17 teenagers lured for a fake audition, demanding to speak with an ex-minister. Armed with an air gun and chemicals, he threatened arson.
