Officials from both sides have described the visit as a reaffirmation of the historic, cultural and military bonds between India and Nepal — often characterised through the enduring "Roti Beti Ka Rishta" — and a fresh push to strengthen interoperability and cooperation between the two armies going forward.

The visit comes at the invitation of Nepal Army Chief General Ashok Sigdel and continues a 76-year-old tradition under which India and Nepal confer honorary generalship on each other's army chiefs, following a well-established custom of high-level visits whenever a new chief takes charge in either country.
