The Supreme Court on Monday took suo motu cognisance of news reports about crimes against minor girls and women across Delhi-NCR.

The Supreme Court has ordered district-wise surveys, vulnerability mapping and audits of lighting and CCTV coverage across Delhi-NCR after recent rape cases. It has also sought detailed reports on whether policing, courts, helplines and safety schemes are functioning on the ground.

Taking suo-moto cognisance of recent cases, the court has sought a response from the Delhi Police on recent sexual assault cases involving minors. The proceedings also examine security measures in public spaces, including patrolling, surveillance and lighting. Delhi authorities have proposed a dedicated women-led patrol force for vulnerable locations.
