US President Donald Trump said his deadline for Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz or face attacks on critical infrastructure is Tuesday evening, according to an interview he gave to the Wall Street Journal published on Sunday.

Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth is believed to have told Trump that attacking roadways could hamper Iran’s ability to use them to move missiles and materials for making drones, while a senior White House official reportedly told the US president to consider targeting electric plants to complicate Tehran’s path to acquiring a nuclear device.

The threats followed the extraction of a US Air Force weapons systems officer whose F-15E Strike Eagle aircraft was downed inside Iran

The war began in late February when the U.S. and Israel launched strikes on Iran, causing economic turmoil and massive global energy disruptions.
