The US withdrawal from the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is "regrettable", says the EU's climate chief.

The US abruptly announced its withdrawal from 66 international organizations on Wednesday — around half of which were UN bodies. Now, Antonio Guterres has reminded the Trump administration of its financial obligations.

The UN’s climate chief said Trump’s decision will “only harm the US economy, jobs and living standards.”

The UN asserts the U.S. must fulfill its funding obligations despite Trump's withdrawal from over 30 agencies and initiatives.

The decision comes as Trump approaches the first anniversary of his second term. Since returning to office, he has already moved to exit the World Health Organization, the Paris climate agreement, and UNESCO, while cutting funding to several UN bodies.
