June 9 (UPI) -- The United States launched new strikes against Iran on Tuesday, not long after U.S. President Donald Trump promised retaliation for an attack on a U.S. helicopter.

US Central Command described the operation, which comes after Tehran's downing of a US Apache helicopter, as a “proportional response” to recent attacks on US forces and commercial shipping.
