Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Four human rights groups sued the Trump administration Tuesday over "crippling" sanctions on judges and prosecutors of the International Criminal Court, saying the executive order is unconstitutional and punishes those doing important human rights work.

Human Rights Watch and three other human rights organizations have sued the United States government in New York over sanctions it imposed on the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague and on several of its employees, including judges and prosecutors, NOS reports.

"Plaintiffs are seeking an end to this sanctions regime, which transgresses the president’s authority and violates international and U.S. law, including the rights to freedom of expression."
