Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Secretary-General of Lok Sabha Utpal Kumar Singh are also likely to accompany Birla, people familiar with the matter said

India-Bangladesh ties: The swearing-in ceremony of the new cabinet of Bangladesh is set be held on Tuesday afternoon at the South Plaza of the National Parliament. The list of invited countries to the oath ceremony so far includes India, China, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and more. 

The 2026 Bangladeshi general election, held on 12 February 2026, marked a major political shift. It was the first election after the 2024 mass protests that ousted long-time leader Sheikh Hasina.

From the very start of the campaign, the BNP projected a sovereignty-first political line. The central slogan placed national interest above all external alignments.

Led by Tarique Rahman, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) will form the government after nearly two decades, following a sweeping victory in the February 12 parliamentary polls.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla along with Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, will represent India at Bangladesh PM-elect Tarique Rahmans swearing-in in Dhaka on February 17.
