2022 World Cup playoff: Nigeria will make history in Kumasi - Ahmed Musa

Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musah says they are confident of breaking the jinx at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi by beating Ghana in the first leg of the 2022 World Cup playoff.

Ghana and Nigeria battle it out for one of the tickets to represent Africa in the 2022 World Cup to be staged in Qatar.

The Black Stars host The Super Eagles in the first leg encounter at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Friday March 25, 2022 before the second leg encounter at the Moshood Abiola Sports Stadium in Abuja on March 29.

Speaking ahead of the game, the Fatih Karagümrük forward stated the Super Eagles can repeat the victory against Benin in the AFCON qualifiers when they face Ghana at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

“We have been hearing a lot of things. How they have not lost in that stadium (Babayara).

“If you remember the 2021 AFCON qualifiers when we played in Benin Republic, they told us they have not lost there. We went there and won.

“I believe we will go there and make history by winning in Kumasi,” Musa said during Wednesday’s press conference in Abuja.

Nigeria have never beaten Ghana at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in any competitive game.

Nigeria and Ghana have a lengthy football rivalry, with the first meeting between the two teams taking place 72 years ago.

Ghana have played Nigeria 49 times and won 21 of them. The Super Eagles have won 10 times while 18 of the clashes have ended in a stalemate.

Coach Augustine Eguavoen finally has a full house following the arrival of goalkeeper John Noble to the team's camp.

25 players have arrived at the Super Eagles camp as they step up preparations to face the Black Stars.

Nigeria began camping on Sunday in Abuja.

The latest update from the NFF indicates that the team has a full squad to embark on their trip to Ghana on Thursday.

Nigeria will fly out via a chartered flight from the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Thursday morning.

The team is expected to land at the Kotoka International Airport before they embark on their trip to Kumasi for the first leg encounter.

The team upon arrival will train at the match venue 24 hours before the game as stipulated by the competition regulations by CAF and FIFA.
