Greek Yoghurt Tops Greece’s Exports to the UK as Sales Jump 67%

by · Greek City Times

Yoghurt was Greece’s single biggest export to the United Kingdom in the first eight months of 2026, with sales worth £152.57 million, up 67.1% on the same period last year.

The figures come from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) data compiled in the October 2026 Economic and Business Developments Bulletin of the Office of Economic and Commercial Affairs at the Greek Embassy in London, as reported by AMNA.

Food and industry share the top 10

Behind yoghurt, the next largest Greek exports to Britain between January and August were circular-section iron or steel pipes at £107.94 million, a rise of 7,804.1%, and refined petroleum oils at £94.61 million, up 268.1%.

Insulated wire, coaxial cables and conductors came fourth at £91.88 million (up 45.8%), followed by medicines in dosage form or retail packaging at £82.89 million, which fell 15.6%.

Cheeses were sixth at £77.43 million, up 16.7%. The top 10 was completed by copper tubes (£61.07 million), aluminium plates, sheets and strips (£44.13 million), gas, liquid and electricity supply meters (£39.44 million) and vegetables in vinegar (£33.16 million).

Greek exports to Britain up 29%

According to HMRC, total Greek exports to the UK reached £1.32 billion in January–August 2026, compared with £1.02 billion a year earlier, an increase of 29%.

UK exports to Greece rose only 1.1%, to £650.94 million from £644.12 million. Bilateral trade grew 18.2% to £1.97 billion, and Greece’s trade surplus with the UK climbed 76.9% to £665.12 million, from £376.03 million.

Fastest growth among EU suppliers

Greece recorded the largest percentage rise in UK imports of any EU member state, at 29.41%, ahead of Ireland at 23.44%. It moved up to 44th place among the UK’s suppliers, from 48th a year earlier.

The gain came as Britain’s overall imports from the EU rose 6.7%, while the bloc’s share of UK imports slipped to 43.36% from 46.45%. Imports from outside the EU grew 20.89% and made up 56.64% of the total.

ELSTAT figures tell the same story

Provisional data from the Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) point the same way. Greek exports to the UK reached €1.686 billion, up 30.1% from €1.296 billion, while imports from the UK rose 17.7% to €673.93 million from €572.75 million.

On ELSTAT’s figures, Greece’s surplus with the UK grew 39.9% to about €1.01 billion, from €723.19 million, and total trade between the two countries rose 26.3% to €2.359 billion, from €1.869 billion.

Yoghurt’s lead shows how Greek dairy continues to sell strongly abroad, alongside a broader rise in Greek industrial exports to the British market.
