Lloyds could close hundreds of branches as customers warned they may lose their local

Concerns are growing over the potential closure of numerous Lloyds Bank branches and further job cuts, as the bank pushes customers towards using other branches in its network, including those of Halifax and Bank of Scotland. A memo from Jayne Opperman, Lloyds' head of consumer relationships, obtained by the Financial Times, reveals the group's focus for the year ahead, highlighting a shift to "evolve how I.T. supports customers" at their branches.

She pointed out that "more people are choosing mobile over any other way to bank" and mentioned that customers can use any branch within the brand, boasting access to the UK's "biggest" combined branch network.

The strategy to integrate banking services across different brands may render some locations superfluous, sparking worries about possible new branch closures. Mark Brown, general secretary of the independent Lloyds union BTU, interprets the move as a means "to make it easier for Lloyds to close more branches and save more money".

He expressed concern, stating: "We estimate that Lloyds will be able to close 233 branches at the virtual drop of a hat, with thousand of staff losing their jobs.Lloyds said it was".

Lloyds responded by saying it is "always looking for ways to make banking easier and more flexible for customers". The past decade has seen the disappearance of over 6,000 high street bank branches, driven by a shift to online banking, reports the Express.

The Lloyds Banking Group, which encompasses Lloyds Bank, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland, has played a significant role in this trend, having closed 1,243 branches since 2015.

The group has so far revealed plans for as many as 102 additional closures across its brands by 2025. Here's the complete list.
