Lidl Dubai Chocolate Bar causes chaos as shoppers fume over 'sell-out' on day 1
by Anita McSorley · Irish MirrorLidl Ireland's latest sweet treat - the Dubai Chocolate Bar - has sparked a frenzy among shoppers, with many claiming they've been left empty-handed as the sought-after product flew off the shelves within hours of its launch.
The budget supermarket introduced its take on the viral Dubai Chocolate craze today, retailing at €4.99 for a 122g bar. Inspired by the original luxury version created in Dubai by Sarah Hamouda - which is priced at a hefty €35 and not yet available in Ireland - Lidl’s more affordable alternative quickly became a must-have.
Lidl shared the news of its arrival on Instagram today, saying: "Our new chocolate obsession has arrived! Dubai chocolate!!! A must try!! Grab a bar today in your local Lidl! While stocks last!"
But for many hopefuls, the excitement turned to frustration. Shoppers took to social media to vent their disappointment, with one saying, “Checked two shops in Dublin, nothing.” Another fumed, “Been to five Lidls and they said they don’t have them in? @lidlireland.” A third said: "All gone in the 2 near me, sold out the day they landed"
One desperate fan summed up the frenzy: “Immediately going into the car ". Another asked: "What is the obsession, don't get it.."
The Dubai Chocolate craze has taken the internet by storm, with Irish chocolatiers like Sugar Plum Sweetery in Westmeath also offering their version - although demand is so high that buyers face a 20-day wait for the €9.95 treat.
Lidl’s take on the indulgent chocolate features a similar recipe, with kataifi pastry, pistachio cream and tahini wrapped in milk chocolate.
The launch also comes just two days after Aldi introduced its own version - the 'Flair Kunafa Dubai Chocolate Cake Bar' - also priced at €4.99.
