Dangote Refinery: MRS, NNPC, Rainoil, Other Filling Stations Release New Petrol Prices

Petrol prices have increased across several filling stations in Abuja following Dangote Refinery’s latest adjustment to its Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) ex-gantry price.

A market survey conducted on Saturday, August 22, 2026, showed that several major filling stations had raised their pump prices, with motorists now paying between ₦1,230 and ₦1,299 per litre in parts of the Federal Capital Territory.

MRS raises petrol price by ₦20

Dangote Refinery-backed MRS filling stations along Kubwa Expressway, Lugbe Expressway and other parts of Abuja increased their petrol price from ₦1,210 to ₦1,230 per litre.

A manager at an MRS outlet, who requested anonymity, said the company’s headquarters in Lagos directed the stations to implement the new price.

“We got the directive to raise our price by ₦20 to ₦1,230 per litre on Friday, but no reason was given,” the manager said.

The latest adjustment represents a ₦20 increase in the pump price at MRS outlets.

NNPC, Rainoil prices also adjusted

Other major fuel retailers, including the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Rainoil, Empire Energy and Nigerian Independent Petroleum Company, also adjusted their prices.

Their petrol prices were found to range between ₦1,250 and ₦1,299 per litre, depending on the filling station and location.

The latest increases mean motorists in Abuja and surrounding areas are once again facing higher fuel costs, reversing some of the price relief witnessed in recent weeks.

Dangote Refinery raises gantry price

The development followed Dangote Refinery’s decision on Friday, August 21, 2026, to increase its petrol ex-gantry price to ₦1,185 per litre from ₦1,165.

The ₦20 adjustment at the refinery has already begun to filter through the downstream market, with major depots also recording prices above ₦1,200 per litre.

The latest increase comes amid a sharp rise in international crude oil prices, with Brent crude trading above $94 per barrel.

Petrol prices had recently fallen

The latest pump price increase comes only days after Nigerian motorists enjoyed significant reductions in petrol prices.

In the past three weeks, several filling stations had reduced their pump prices by at least ₦90 per litre following earlier reductions in Dangote Refinery’s gantry price.

The fresh increase therefore marks a reversal of the downward trend and could put additional pressure on households and businesses.

Motorists are already feeling the impact of higher fuel costs, with transport fares rising in Lagos and other parts of the country.

If the latest refinery and depot price increases persist, consumers could face further adjustments in petrol prices in the coming days.

NNPC's petrol price drops below other filling stations

Legit.ng earlier reported that motorists at certain NNPC Retail outlets are paying noticeably less for petrol than customers at competing filling stations, as pump prices continue to edge lower following a drop in depot costs across multiple cities.

The NNPC outlet along Awolowo Road in Lagos is currently selling petrol at N1,205 per litre, well below the N1,230 to N1,250 range that most other filling stations are charging.
