Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ) has secured a 10-year marine services contract for Argentina's first liquefied natural gas (LNG) export project, marking the company's entry into South America.
The contract was awarded to Adani Harbour International FZCO, a step-down subsidiary of APSEZ, through a consortium formed with Argentina-based Meridian Group. The consortium won the contract after a global competitive bidding process conducted by Southern Energy S.A. (SESA).
The deal strengthens Adani Ports' presence in the global energy logistics sector and further expands its international marine services business.
MARINE SUPPORT FOR MAJOR LNG PROJECT
Accoridng to a BSE filing, the Adani-Meridian consortium will provide a range of marine services for the Southern Energy FLNG project in Argentina.
These services will include tugboat operations for LNG carriers, offshore logistics support, supply services and crew transportation. The operations will be carried out using four high-specification tugboats, one anchor handling tug supply vessel and one crew boat.
The contract will be executed through Meridian Transportes Martimos S.A., a joint venture in which Adani Harbour International FZCO holds a 51% stake and Meridian Group owns the remaining 49%.
Commenting on the development, Ashwani Gupta, Whole-time Director and Chief Executive Officer of APSEZ, said the project reflects the company's increasing ability to support large energy infrastructure projects across different regions.
"This project reflects our growing capability to support large-scale energy infrastructure projects across geographies. With marine operations in 12 countries and a growing fleet of marine assets supporting ports, LNG terminals, national oil companies, refineries and offshore facilities, we bring deep operational expertise to complex maritime environments," Gupta said.
He added that by working closely with local partners, the company is helping build reliable maritime ecosystems that support new energy trade routes and strengthen long-term supply resilience.
ARGENTINA EMERGING AS A NEW LNG SUPPLIER
Argentina is increasingly being seen as an important future supplier of LNG. Agreements are already in place to support exports of up to 10 million tonnes of LNG annually to India from 2027.
The Southern Energy FLNG project is expected to play a key role in linking Argentina's growing gas resources with global energy markets.
The project is being developed by Southern Energy S.A., a joint venture between Golar LNG and Pan American Energy (PAE).
COMMERCIAL OPERATIONS EXPECTED IN 2027
Located in the San Matas Gulf in Argentina's Ro Negro Province, the project will use the floating liquefied natural gas vessel Hilli Episeyo to process and export natural gas.
The facility will receive gas from the General San Martin pipeline and convert it into LNG onboard the vessel.
Commercial operations are expected to begin in September 2027. In the first phase, the project is expected to produce 2.45 million tonnes of LNG annually, equivalent to around 28 LNG cargoes every year.
Once operational, it will become Argentina's first LNG export project, opening a new chapter for the country's energy industry while creating a fresh supply route for global buyers, including India.
