Tata clocks 31% growth, ahead of Mahindra and Hyundai in April

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles posted 31 per cent sales growth in April 2026, emerging as India's second-largest passenger vehicle maker, ahead of Mahindra & Mahindra and Hyundai Motor India.

Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles reported a strong start to FY2027, registering total sales of 59,701 units in April 2026, marking a 31.1 per cent year-on-year growth compared to 45,532 units sold during the same month last year.

The company’s domestic passenger vehicle sales stood at 59,000 units in April 2026, up 30.5 per cent from 45,199 units recorded in April 2025. International business volumes more than doubled during the month, rising 110.5 per cent to 701 units from 333 units a year earlier.

Electric vehicles continued to remain a key growth driver for the automaker. Combined domestic and international EV sales reached 9,150 units in April 2026, registering a sharp 72.1 per cent increase over 5,318 units sold in April last year.

Tata emerged as the second-highest selling passenger vehicle manufacturer in April 2026, outperforming both Mahindra and Hyundai Motor India during the month.

For Mahindra, the Utility Vehicle (UV) range continued to anchor overall performance, with domestic SUV sales rising 8 per cent year-on-year to 56,331 units. Including exports, the automaker’s total UV volumes stood at 57,833 units in April 2026.

Hyundai Motor India, on the other hand, posted domestic sales of 51,902 units, reflecting a 17 per cent increase over the corresponding period last year. The company also shipped 13,708 units to overseas markets, taking its cumulative sales tally for the month to 65,610 units.
