7.4 magnitude earthquake hits Near East Coast Of Russia’s Kamchatka

Moscow: A magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck near the east coast of Russia’s Kamchatka region on Saturday, the United States Geological Survey said.

The quake hit 111 kilometres (69 miles) east of the Russian city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the administrative centre of the Kamchatka region, at a depth of 39.5 kilometres, according to the USGS. No immediate reports of damage or casualties have been reported yet.

The quake hit in the same region that experienced a massive 8.8 tremor in July, which had triggered tsunami warnings across eastern Russia and prompting tsunami alerts for multiple countries, including Japan, the United States, and several Pacific island nations.

According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the July quake was the strongest earthquake recorded globally in the past 14 years.
