Center increases excise duty by Rs. 2 each on diesel and petrol, to be effective from tomorrow

Bhubaneswar: The Central Government has raised the excise duty by Rs. 2 each on petrol and diesel said the Department of Revenue via an official notification. A price hike is likely for petrol and diesel!

“G.S.R. 220(E).-In exercise of the powers conferred by section 5A of the Central Excise Act, 1944 (1 of 1944) read with section 147 of Finance Act, 2002 (20 of 2002), the Central Government being satisfied that it is necessary in the public interest so to do, hereby makes the following further amendments in the notification of the Government of India, Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue) No. 05/2019-Central Excise, dated the 6th July, 2019, published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary, Part II, Section 3, Sub-section (i), vide number G.S.R. 488(E), dated the 6th July, 2019, namely:-

In the said notification, in the Table,-
(i) against Sl. No. 1, in column (4), for the entry, the entry “Rs. 13 per litre” shall be substituted; (ii) against Sl. No. 2, in column (4), for the entry, the entry “Rs. 10 per litre” shall be substituted. 2. This notification shall come into force on the 8th day of April, 2025.”

Diesel and petrol price hike likely after the above announcement! Today’s petrol and diesel prices in India are Rs 103.50 and Rs 90.03 per litre, with no change from yesterday. Over the last 2 months, the petrol and diesel rates have fluctuated.

Fresh petrol and diesel prices were announced in Bhubaneswar on Monday for April 7, 2025, and the rates have increased by 0.62 paise in the last 24 hours. The price of petrol is Rs 101.55 per litre, while the cost of diesel is Rs 93.11 per litre.

Coming to Cuttack City in Odisha, the petrol and diesel prices in Cuttack have decreased by 0.55 paise in the last 24 hours. Petrol has been priced at Rs 101.31 per litre, and Diesel has been recorded at Rs 92.88 per litre.
