New Delhi: Indigo flights are going to get costlier as the airline has increased the fuel charges of both international and domestic flights. This comes after Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices increased.
For domestic flights, the new fuel charge will depend on the distance travelled. The price for flights up to 500 km will increase by Rs 375, Rs 600 for 501–1,000 km, Rs 900 for 1,001–1,500 km, Rs 1,150 for 1,501–2,000 km and Rs 1,300 for flights covering more than 2,000 km.
International travellers will also have to pay higher fuel charges. The revised amount will range from Rs1,000 to Rs 10,000, depending on the destination. Flights to Europe will attract the highest charge of Rs 10,000, while flights to Africa will carry a Rs 6,000 charge.
IndiGo said the move is also prompted by the increase in ATF prices over the past few months. The recent month-on-month hike has exceeded 14%, pushing aviation fuel prices to their highest levels in the last decade. Rising fuel prices are impacting the company’s operating expenses, it added.

“Our decision is to offset half of the increase in fuel prices for our passengers through a modest increase rather than transfer the entire fuel price hike,” the airline said. IndiGo said the increase in passenger fares would hike the price of flying but said the decision was driven by ongoing rise in operation costs.
The latest move comes after ATF prices were raised by around Rs 16 per litre. It was Rs 121 and later became Rs 137 per litre on October 1.
This is the third consecutive month of aviation fuel prices to increase. The price hike will take effect from tomorrow onwards.
