New Delhi, Dec 24: The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved three new corridors under Delhi Metro’s Phase V(A) project to improve connectivity across the national capital. The approved corridors are R.K. Ashram Marg to Indraprastha (9.91 km), Aerocity to IGD Airport Terminal-1 (2.26 km) and Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj (3.9 km). Together, the project will add about 16.08 km to the Delhi Metro network at a total cost of Rs 12,014.91 crore, to be funded by the Centre, the Delhi government and international agencies.

The R.K. Ashram Marg–Indraprastha corridor will extend the existing Botanical Garden–R.K. Ashram Marg line and provide direct Metro access to the Central Vista area, benefiting around 60,000 office-goers and nearly two lakh visitors daily.

The Aerocity–Terminal-1 and Tughlakabad–Kalindi Kunj extensions will improve airport connectivity with south Delhi areas such as Saket and Kalindi Kunj. The three corridors will have 13 stations, of which 10 will be underground and three elevated. Once completed, they are expected to ease road congestion, cut vehicle pollution and improve overall urban mobility. Delhi Metro officials said the new extensions will further expand the network in central and south Delhi and boost economic activity. At present, the Delhi Metro carries an average of 65 lakh passengers daily and operates a network of about 395 km with 289 stations across Delhi and the NCR.
