Maruti Suzuki’s domestic passenger vehicle sales grew both annually and sequentially, even as its shares declined amid a wider sell-off in auto stocks

Maruti Suzuki recorded domestic passenger vehicle sales of 1,81,838 units in September 2026, registering 36.91% growth over 1,32,820 units in September 2025. Volumes also increased 2.75% over August 2026’s 1,76,971 units, adding 4,867 vehicles.

Including light commercial vehicles, supplies to other manufacturers and exports, Maruti’s total sales reached 2,36,013 units. This represents 24.44% growth over 1,89,665 units a year earlier, with domestic passenger vehicles driving the increase.

Utility Vehicle Sales Jump 62%

Maruti’s utility vehicle portfolio recorded sales of 78,911 units, compared with 48,695 units in September 2025. This translates to approximately 62.05% growth, adding 30,216 units. The category includes Brezza, Ertiga, e Vitara, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Invicto, Jimny, Victoris and XL6.

Passenger cars across the mini, compact and midsize categories also grew strongly. Combined sales reached 91,887 units, up approximately 24.02% from 74,090 units. This grouping includes Alto, Baleno, Celerio, Ciaz, Dzire, Ignis, S-Presso, Swift and WagonR. Eeco van sales increased 10.01% to 11,040 units, compared with 10,035 units a year earlier.

Exports Grow, Toyota Supplies Decline

Maruti’s exports increased 4.77% to 44,219 units in September, against 42,204 units a year earlier. Super Carry light commercial vehicle sales rose 18.09% to 3,414 units.

Supplies to Toyota moved in the opposite direction, declining 44.32% to 6,542 units from 11,750 units. Likely because of the upcoming Glanza facelift based on Baleno. The reduction partly offset gains elsewhere, although total company volumes still increased by 46,348 units.

Maruti Sales Q3 2026

Third-Quarter Sales Reach 6.97 Lakh

For July–September 2026, Maruti’s total sales stood at 6,96,654 units, up 26.46% from 5,50,874 units in the corresponding quarter last year. Domestic passenger vehicle volumes grew 38.11% to 5,55,012 units, while LCV sales increased 23.46% to 10,441 units. Quarterly exports declined 2.14% to 1,08,119 units, and supplies to Toyota fell 23.20% to 23,082 units.

For the broader April–September period, total sales reached 13,79,378 units, compared with 10,78,735 units a year earlier—growth of approximately 27.87%. Domestic passenger vehicle sales crossed 10.80 lakh units, underlining the domestic business’s contribution to Maruti’s first-half expansion.

Maruti Shares Fall Amid Auto Sector Sell-Off

Despite the sales growth, Maruti Suzuki shares fell more than 5% at one point during October 1 trading, touching an intraday low of Rs 11,305. The decline came amid broader selling in automobile stocks, with the Nifty Auto index down around 3.7%.

Market commentary pointed to softer September sales across parts of the industry following a strong August. However, Maruti’s domestic passenger vehicle figures showed growth on both YoY and MoM comparisons. Its share-price decline therefore came against a backdrop of broader sector weakness, rather than a fall in its reported domestic PV volumes.
