Samsung Launches First 500Hz OLED Gaming Monitor, Starting in Asia

Samsung has officially launched the 27-inch Odyssey OLED G6, its cutting-edge gaming monitor featuring a stunning 500Hz refresh rate, making it the world’s first OLED display to reach that speed. While similar refresh rates have been seen in LCD gaming monitors before, this is the first time such performance comes with the visual advantages of OLED technology.

The OLED G6 originally debuted at CES 2024 with a 360Hz refresh rate, but Samsung has since pushed the spec even further to appeal to professional esports players and competitive gamers, especially those who play high-speed titles like first-person shooters.

At the core of the G6 is Samsung’s QD-OLED panel, which merges OLED technology with Quantum Dot materials. This combination delivers deeper blacks, high contrast, and richer, more vibrant colors compared to standard OLED displays. The monitor also reaches a peak brightness of 1,000 nits, matching other top-tier QD-OLED screens.

In terms of specs, the G6 offers:

  • 2560 x 1440 resolution
  • 0.03ms response time
  • VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification
  • Support for Nvidia G-Sync and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro

Samsung says the monitor is engineered for smooth, crisp, and responsive gameplay.

To address the risk of OLED burn-in, Samsung integrated a special heat pipe cooling system to evenly distribute heat. Additionally, the G6 can automatically dim certain areas of the screen to reduce temperature buildup and prolong panel life.

For now, the Odyssey OLED G6 will be available first in select Asian countries: Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia. A wider global release is planned for later this year. In Singapore, the monitor is currently on sale at a promotional price of SGD 1,488 (approximately USD 1,140).
