Flights Resume at Srinagar Airport After Snow Cleared From Runway
by Northlines · NorthlinesSRINAGAR, Jan 24: Flight operations at Srinagar Airport resumed on Saturday after remaining suspended for a day due to heavy snowfall, officials said.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI), in coordination with the Border Roads Organization (BRO), cleared snow from the runway, apron and taxiways on Saturday morning, making the aerodrome operational following an improvement in weather conditions.
Air traffic at the airport had been suspended on Friday after major snowfall across Kashmir led to heavy accumulation of snow on the runway, forcing the cancellation of all flights.
“Flight operations have resumed at the airport as a flight has just landed at the aerodrome,” officials at Srinagar Airport said. They added that a joint inspection of the airfield was carried out before allowing flight movements to restart.
Officials said flight operations are now expected to run normally and smoothly. However, one IndiGo flight was cancelled early Saturday morning due to unfavourable local weather conditions, while a few other flights were cancelled because of a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) issued at Delhi Airport.
Some flights also experienced delays, officials said, adding that normal operations would be restored gradually as weather and air traffic conditions stabilise.
