Financial assistance schemes for Refugees extended to March 2026
by Northlines · NorthlinesJammu Tawi, Apr 5: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has announced an extension of the Financial Assistance Schemes for West Pakistani Refugees (WPRs), and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK) and Chhamb Refugees settled in the Union Territory until March 2026. The decision was made after receiving approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
According to an official order, the financial assistance scheme for 5,764 West Pakistani Refugee families, which was initially launched in 2018, will now continue from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026, with an approved budget of Rs. 317.02 crore. It has been clarified that there will be no further extension beyond this date. Additionally, the Central Assistance Scheme for the one-time settlement of displaced families from PoJK (1947) and Chhamb (1965 and 1971), introduced under the Prime Minister’s Development Package-2015, has also been extended for the same period. This scheme will continue with an approved outlay of Rs. 2,000 crore. The extension aims to ensure continued support for these communities, providing much-needed relief and financial stability.
