Tamil Nadu closes three of the 13 spillway shutters of Mullaperiyar dam

by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduTamil Nadu closed three spillway shutters of the Mullaperiyar dam on Wednesday while keeping 10 raised at 30 cm after water level in the reservoir came down.
Three radial shutters were closed at 12 p.m. when the water level was 136.25 ft. The current surplus discharge is 195 cusecs. The average inflow on Wednesday was 1,505 cusecs, and the tunnel discharge was 2,117 cusecs.
As per the rule curve, Tamil Nadu can store 136.3 ft of water in the dam till July 10. Tamil Nadu opened all 13 spillway shutters of the dam on Sunday after the water level rose to 136 feet on Saturday evening.
On Wednesday, the water level in the Idukki reservoir was 2,364.22 (58.38%) ft. The blue alert level is 2,367.33 ft, and the upper rule curve level is 2,375.33 ft.
