Water level in Mettur Dam goes below 120 feet

The water level of Mettur Dam in Salem went below 120 feet after five days on Thursday (July 3, 2025). 

Following heavy rain in catchment areas and water discharged from the Karnataka dams started to reach Mettur Dam, the water level of the dam increased. The dam attained its full capacity of 120 feet on Sunday. For the past five days, the dam level had been maintained at 120 feet and inflow into the dam had been completely discharged for delta irrigation. Meanwhile, rain had stopped in the catchment areas and the inflow started to reduce from Wednesday (July 2, 2025).

On Thursday at 8 a.m., inflow reduced to 23,124 cusecs from Wednesday’s inflow of 25,500 cusecs. At 4 p.m., inflow further reduced to 18,615 cusecs. 

The dam level stood at 119.80 feet against its full capacity of 120 feet. The storage level stood at 93.15 tmc ft against its full capacity of 93.47 tmc ft. The amount of water discharged from the dam into River Cauvery for delta irrigation reduced to 24,000 cusecs from 25,000 cusecs. For canal irrigation, the water discharge continued at 500 cusecs.
