Dr Annuar: New Jln Teku Pasai Siong-Kemuyang Road to boost connectivity, economic growth in Sibu
by Yunus Yussop · Borneo Post OnlineSIBU (Jan 11): The Sarawak government’s decision to construct a road linking Pasai Siong to Kemuyang is expected to have a significant impact, not only in terms of public convenience but also economically, said Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee.
The state Deputy Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Minister emphasised that improved mobility would play a crucial role in driving rapid economic growth in the future.
“This road connection is crucial, especially as it will facilitate development in areas such as Kemunyang, which will house over 800 residential units.
“Currently, 180 units are ready, and more than 400 additional units are planned for the future. Good infrastructure is essential to ensure the comfort of the community,” he said during the ground breaking ceremony for the Jalan Teku Pasai Siong-Kemuyang Road project today, officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Dr Annuar noted that Sibu town is experiencing rapid development, particularly in the lower areas near the mouths of the Igan and Rajang rivers, pointing out that these areas have become densely populated and may no longer be suitable for large-scale infrastructure projects.
“Existing roads, such as the old Oya Road and roads around Sibu town, are congested and not well-suited for development due to the poor soil conditions, which require high maintenance.
“Therefore, development has been directed to this area, as the land here is better suited for construction,” he said.
He highlighted that the new road project will bring significant benefits, making institutions like the Sarawak International School and the University of Technology Sarawak more accessible once completed.
He expressed confidence that this development will positively impact the community, not just in Nangka, but across Sibu town.
“The infrastructure planned by the government reflects its concern for public comfort and the development needs of the community.
“Good infrastructure will facilitate easier movement and daily economic activities for the people,” he said.
Dr Annuar further urged the public to appreciate the Sarawak government’s emphasis on infrastructure development, which will have lasting benefits for the future.
He also appealed for full cooperation from residents whose land may need to be acquired for the road project, to ensure its smooth progression and timely completion.
