Malaysia Pavilion eyes RM19.5 bln in trade, investment at Expo 2025 Osaka
by Jude Toyat · Borneo Post OnlineOSAKA, Japan (Sept 8): The Malaysia Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka aims to generate up to RM19.5 billion—surpassing its initial target of RM13 billion—in potential trade and investment by the time it closes on Oct 13.
“Cumulatively, we have surpassed our target of RM13 billion in terms of potential trade and investment. We have generated over 120 per cent as we speak, and we have a few more weeks to go with many other ministries and also states joining us.
“We expect that this number will rise, and hopefully we’re able to achieve at least about 150 per cent by the end of the expo,” said Malaysia Pavilion director Ellyza Mastura Ahmad Hanipiah today during a press conference held at Business Hall in conjunction with Malaysia’s National Day celebration at Expo 2025 Osaka.
Ellyza said memoranda of understanding signed at the pavilion spanned key sectors, such as renewable energy; advanced electrical and electronics, with a focus on semiconductors; halal logistics; biotechnology; digital services; and higher education.
She added these aligned with the National Industrial Master Plan 2030 and Malaysia’s Asean chairmanship priorities.
She noted the pavilion served both as a platform for cultural diplomacy and business hub.
“This is a milestone that our Malaysia Pavilion has opened up—bringing new opportunities and access to new markets—especially for our SMEs (small medium enterprises). We have suppliers coming on board, pilot lines and joint ventures also in the pipeline,” she said.
Meanwhile, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said Malaysia’s improved standing in global competitiveness rankings reflected ongoing governance reforms.
“We jumped 11 spots from 34 to 23 in world competitiveness rankings because of improvements in governance in government administration.
“Initiatives such as the Special Task Force on Agency Reform, which streamlined 166 processes, and the Tekad Kuala Lumpur treaty, signed by federal, state and local leaders, were critical in strengthening investor confidence and public service delivery,” he said.
Also present was Ambassador of Malaysia to Japan Dato Shahril Effendi Abd Ghany.
