King Charles' Other Brother Also Lives in a Giant Royal Mansion With a Secretive Lease...

  • King Charles is trying to evict his disgraced younger brother, Prince Andrew, from the Royal Lodge.
  • News recently broke that Andrew doesn't pay rent on the property.
  • King Charles' other younger brother, Prince Edward, lives in a mansion called Bagshot Park and his lease agreement is also secretive.

Soooo, King Charles is trying to evict his disgraced brother Prince Andrew from the Royal Lodge, aka the giant mansion he's been living in since 2004. But there's even more pressure on Charles now that everyone knows Andrew only pays "one peppercorn (if demanded)" in rent per year. And naturally outrage over this revelation has put the King's other siblings into the spotlight.

Which brings us to Charles' younger brother, Prince Edward, who also happens to be living in a fancy royal mansion called Bagshot Park. But unlike Andrew, he actually pays his own way. Maybe?

The Times reports that the The Duke of Edinburgh "paid the market rate" for Bagshot Park—or at least he did until 2007, when he renewed the lease and "key details were redacted on the Land Registry."

Edward was initially leasing the property for just £5,000 a year, but in March 1998 that shot up to £90,000 a year (aka “market value”). In other words, he appears to be paying more than Prince Andrew (again, he pays a peppercorn) buuuuut current lease details are redacted. That said, rumor has it that Edward extended his lease for 150 years for the sum of £5 million.

So, what's the deal with Bagshot Park? It's a grade II listed mansion built by Queen Victoria between 1875 and 1879 for her third son, Prince Arthur. Sounds nice!
