by · RTE.ie

A multi-agency search for a woman lost at sea in Galway Bay has concluded for the evening.

The effort, led by gardaí, involves the Coast Guard Service, Civil Defence teams and the RNLI.

In addition, a number of search and rescue groups from around the country have travelled to Galway to assist the sea and land operation.

Their work is being augmented by the involvement of hundreds of people from coastal communities in Conamara.

They are conducting coastline searches around the bay, running from An Spideál in the west, towards Oranmore and Kinvara in the east.

Additional searches have also been carried out by locals during night-time low tides.

So far, there has been no trace of the missing woman, who is in her 30sand from the south Conamara area.

She was one of two people carried out to sea in dense fog at Silverstrand beach last Tuesday.

The body of songwriter Johnny Duhan was recovered from the water hours after he was reported missing.

Large crowds are attending the repose of his remains at the Church of Mary Immaculate Queen, in Bearna tonight.

Elsewhere, people in An Spideál gathered at their local church this evening, to offer prayers for the missing woman and those involved in the ongoing search effort.
