DWP cold weather payment postcode checker as £25 payments triggered
by Lydia Royce, Antony Clements-Thrower, Fionnula Hainey, Branwen Jones · Wales OnlineDozens of places across the UK are set to receive a cold weather payment following several days of freezing temperatures. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) provides £25 payments to eligible homes when temperatures plummet to 0°C or lower for seven consecutive days—a situation that has recently occurred.
Consequently, several postcodes in the north of England, including regions like Cumbria, Northumberland, and those near the Scottish border, are set to receive these additional funds, according to the Mirror. Those eligible should see the extra money in their bank accounts within two weeks after parts of Scotland and northern England nearly faced temperatures as low as minus 8°C, the Mirror adds.
The last few days has seen several weather warnings issued by the Met Office for snow and ice covering Wales and England. The DWP explained: "DWP's Cold Weather Payments are an automatic bank top-up of £25, triggered to be paid to eligible households when the average temperature has been recorded as, or is forecast to be, zero degrees Celsius or below for seven consecutive days at the weather station linked to an eligible person's postcode.
"The £25 payments will be paid automatically to households receiving certain benefits including, Pension Credit, Income Support, income-based Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA), income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), Universal Credit and Support for Mortgage Interest. The money will appear in bank statements within 14 days of each seven-day period of very cold weather between 1 November 2024 and 31 March 2025, with the payment reference starting with the customer's national Insurance number followed by 'DWP CWP' for people in England and Wales."
