Martin Lewis tells British Gas, Octopus, Eon, EDF and OVO customers 'simple thing to do'

by · Birmingham Live

Martin Lewis has urged households to consider making a simple change after the latest energy price projections for the new year were released. The Energy Price Cap will rise again in January, pushing gas and electricity costs up even further.

The typical household will pay an extra £21 a year, as the average annual bill average annual bill climbs to £1,738. While it is only a small rise, millions of families will already feel their payments are too high and it means things won't be getting easier any time soon.

Money expert Martin Lewis says there is one thing households can do to beat the Energy Price Cap rise and keep their bills lower. That's choosing a fixed tariff which will provide people with certainty about how much they will pay over a certain period.

The TV presenter said there were fixed tariffs available which are cheaper than the current price cap so there's still a chance to make savings before the latest rise kicks in during January. Martin said fixes were worthwhile as bills are still expected to be higher than they are now in a year's time.

He said on X: "Current predictions are the price cap will rise again on April 1 by a couple of percent, then drop slightly in July and slightly again in October. Even then it's still expected to be slightly MORE than now.

"So over the next year it's predicted you will pay a couple of percent more than now on average. The cheapest fixed tariffs available right now are around 5% LESS than the current price cap. Therefore the simple thing to do is lock into a fix now to save money and guarantee no future hikes."
