If you're planning a mad dash around your local supermarket this Christmas, it's important to know when they'll be open. The good news is that supermarkets will be open right up to Christmas Day, which this year falls on a Wednesday.
We’ve reviewed the opening and closing times for the major supermarkets this Christmas, including Aldi, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, and others, between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day - to save you the hassle. Supermarket times can vary, so it is worth double checking on the supermarket's store locater page for your nearest store in case the hours differ slightly.

Aldi Christmas opening hours
Aldi have extended their opening hours on Monday, December 23 for those last minute Christmas shoppers. On Christmas Eve, stores will close at the slightly earlier time of 6pm.
Aldi will be shut on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, as it has always done since opening in the UK over 30 years ago. The store will reopen on December 27 from 8am-8pm.
Asda Christmas opening hours
Asda’s opening hours differ by location, but the following times apply to most stores during the Christmas and New Year period, according to a company spokesperson. Some Asda stores operate 24 hours, so it’s recommended to check your local store for specific hours.
- Monday, December 23: 5am to 10pm
- Tuesday, December 24 (Christmas Eve): 5am to 7pm
- Wednesday, December 25 (Christmas Day): CLOSED
- Thursday, December 26 (Boxing Day): 9am to 6pm
- Friday, December 27: Normal trading hours
Lidl Christmas opening hours
Lidl stores will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Most stores will also remain closed on Boxing Day, though customers are advised to check their local store’s hours using the online store finder. On Christmas Eve (Tuesday, December 24), stores will operate normal hours, and normal trading resumes on Friday, December 27.
Marks and Spencer Christmas opening hours
M&S Food will be closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. On Christmas Eve stores will remain open until 7pm. The opening times for most stores are as follows.

- Tuesday, December 24 (Christmas Eve) - 6am to 7pm
- Wednesday, December 25 (Christmas Day) - CLOSED
- Thursday, December 26 (Boxing Day) - CLOSED

Morrisons Christmas opening hours
Morrisons is open throughout the festive period, and will only close on Christmas Day. Hours can vary from store to store, and in Scotland, so check before visiting.

- Tuesday, December 24 (Christmas Eve) - 5am to 7pm - (see your store for exact times)
- Wednesday, December 25 (Christmas Day) - CLOSED

Sainsbury’s Christmas opening hours
Sainsbury’s stores will close only on Christmas Day. According to a spokesperson, the “vast majority” of supermarkets and convenience stores will be open from 6am to 11pm between Wednesday, December 18, and Monday, December 23. Here are the opening hours over the festive period.

Most Waitrose stores will be closed on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, with Christmas Day also being a non-trading day. On Christmas Eve (Tuesday, December 24), stores will open from 7am to 7pm, while normal trading resumes on Friday, December 27. Customers are advised to check their local store’s hours, as opening times may vary.
