Martin Lewis' MSE sends message to British Gas, Octopus, Eon, EDF and OVO customers and says 'no-brainer'

Martin Lewis has told UK households a decision over their energy bills is a "no-brainer". It's been confirmed that gas and electricity bills will be rising again from January in a fresh blow for families.

Typical homes will pay £21 a year more with charges forecast to remain high throughout 2025. But people are being told of one way they can keep their bills lower and 'beat' the Energy Price Cap rise.

That's by fixing their bills. Martin Lewis is encouraging households to check out fixed tariff options with either their existing supplier or an alternative one. He said people could save up to 9% compared to the average from January.

He added there was little risk with a 12 or 18-month fix as bills are not expected to fall substantially over that period. The TV presenter and money saving guru said fixing right now was a "no-brainer". Martin said: "Fix energy bills for 18 months at 9% LESS than the new Jan price cap.

"On Friday it was announced that the new Jan Energy Price Cap would rise 1.2%, and it's not expected to drop much in 2025. This makes a cheap fix the no-brainer option. Currently you can fix for 18 months at 8.9% less than the Jan cap (7.8% under current cap).
