400-mile weather bomb to bring snow to these parts of Britain
by Richard Guttridge, https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/authors/richard-guttridge/ · Birmingham LiveA 400-mile 'weather bomb' is rolling its way towards Britain, bringing widespread heavy rain and snow for some areas. A wall of rain is heading eastwards towards the UK and is set to arrive on Thursday morning, along with gusts of up to 80mph.
The wet and wild weather threatens to cause travel disruption and possible power cuts. Another huge weather system is then set to follow in its path on Friday morning and will see heavy rain batter most of the country.
There are also snow warnings for parts of northern England and Scotland from Friday morning. BBC weather maps show heavy rain or snow covering almost all of England and Wales on Friday morning. Temperatures will be slightly higher than they have been over recent days at around 9C.

Snow could hit cities including Newcastle, Glasgow and Edinburgh. A yellow wind warning is in place for the whole of Northern Ireland and the western half of Scotland, including Glasgow, from midnight on Friday to noon on Saturday.
There are warnings winds could be strong enough to bring down trees and damage buildings. The weather system is due to pass through on Friday with a clearer, and colder, weekend in store for many.
The Met Office forecast from Thursday onwards says: "Turning unsettled on Thursday with a band of rain and strong winds moving eastwards. Wet and windy on Friday, with a mix of sunshine and blustery showers on Saturday."
Forecasters added winds will "begin to strengthen on Thursday night with the peak gusts forecast through Friday in Northern Ireland and western Scotland".
