Nintendo is crushing it with Switch 2 sales, hitting 6 million in two months
by Justin Diaz · Android HeadlinesThe Nintendo Switch 2 was always likely going to be a hot seller, given the popularity of the first console, but now there’s a clear indicator of just how much of a hot seller it is, as Nintendo has officially confirmed that Switch 2 sales have surpassed 6 million units. That’s a lot to push out the door and into customer hands within the first couple of months of the console’s launch. The Nintendo Switch 2 officially launched on June 5, so it’s not quite at the two-month mark. It’s only a few days off, however.
It’s also worth noting that 5.86 million of those units were sold in the first month. It’s been significantly less since then. Still, it’s a respectable accomplishment by Nintendo. Not to mention a good first step toward reaching its overall sales goal for the remainder of this fiscal year.
Nintendo wants Switch 2 sales to reach 15 million by April 2026
Nintendo’s sales may or may not have slowed down at this point since the console’s launch back in June. It’s likely that we won’t know until the company’s next quarterly earnings report. Regardless, Nintendo has a lofty, but seemingly still very attainable goal for sales throughout the remainder of the fiscal year. It’s reported that Nintendo wants to sell 15 million Switch 2 consoles by April of 2026. Its current fiscal year will end at the end of March next year. It’s also four months into this current fiscal year at this point. That gives Nintendo eight more months to reach that goal.
Whether sales have slowed at all or not, the holiday shopping season is fast approaching. It wouldn’t be surprising if Nintendo saw a huge increase in sales right around that time. After all, the holidays are a big time for gifts like the Switch 2, especially at its higher price compared to the previous generation console. It’s highly likely that many customers are waiting until they buy gifts for the holidays to make such a purchase.
Engadget reports that Nintendo’s software sales were strong around the same time. Having sold about 8.67 million units. Sales were strongly led by first-party games such as Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza, with a large portion of software sales coming from the Mario Kart World bundle as well.
