UltraTech Cement and HCL Tech remained the only gainers on the 30-share Sensex platform. On the other hand, the major laggards included Zomato, Adani Ports, NTPC, ICICI Bank, and State Bank of India. 

Among Sensex shares, Zomato, NTPC, Adani Ports, ICICI Bank, State Bank of India, Reliance Industries, Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj Finance, Tech Mahindra and Axis Bank were the major laggards.

The BSE Sensex fell 1,431.57 points, or 1.89 per cent, reaching 75,641.87. The NSE Nifty declined 367.9 points or 1.60 per cent at 22,976.85.

Stock market update: In the early trade, the 30-share BSE Sensex rose 326.86 points to 76,212.83. Meanwhile, the Nifty was also up by 87.60 points to 23,111.25.
