Kate Garraway reveals tragic reason Traitors axe didn't bother her

Kate Garraway has revealed the tragic reason why she was not bothered after being banished from Celebrity Traitors on Thursday.

The host, 58, who was widowed in January 2024 when her husband Derek Draper passed away, said 'didn't take it personally' as she has 'lived genuine life or death' - which had put everything else in perspective.

Kate was a Faithful in the popular murder mystery programme and admitted that she was 'flabbergasted' by the other players' suspicions of her.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain on Friday, she said: 'Every roundtable, I was always under attack, always under suspicion, I'm amazed I lasted.'

The show centres around a group of players who undertake a series of challenges to increase a prize pot - all while attempting to identify and 'murder' the hidden Traitors, who are out to take the winnings entirely for themselves.

If a Faithful ultimately wins the show, the money is split between all remaining Faithfuls.

Kate said: 'I didn't take it personally, at the end of the day, it's an incredible game that you're sucked into... I didn't take it personally, I've lived genuine life or death, so at the end of the day, this is a game, and you know you're not really going to be murdered.'

There are now just five players still in the running for the cash prize - Traitors Jonaathan and Cat and Faithfuls Nick, Joe and David.

The journalist, whose chosen charity was not named, said that she couldn't understand why she came under so much speculation from her fellow Faithfuls.

She said: 'It's really intense, those Traitors probably had a very tough time, you're with a group of incredible people and you're having to lie, deceive and murder them. I was completely myself all the way through, I thought it'd be easier'

Kate added: 'I was absolutely flabbergasted that they were suspicious of me, I thought, I must be the least suspicious person in the world.'

But while Kate might have been able to emotionally separate herself from the events of the game, she said she now understands why people get so invested in it.

The Good Morning Britain star's final roundtable saw tensions boil over between her and  David Olusoga.

Speculating about the eventual winner, Kate said she has a 'sneaky feeling' that Alan Carr will ultimately win the game.

She added: 'I have a sneaky feeling it's going to be a Traitor and I have a sneaky feeling it's going to be Alan, I think he's a mega-star.

'But I don't know, that's just me saying what I think.'

She said: 'I'd love it to be a Faithful.

'I think Nick is brilliant, I think Joe M is coming through brilliantly.'

Throughout Kate's time on the show, fans were quick to comment on how accidentally suspicious she came across on screen.

They wrote on Twitter/X: 'Kate Garraway is coming across SO suspicious and being so over the top. Even I'm starting to think she's secretly a Traitor and I know she isn't. #CelebrityTraitors';

'kate garraway going down in history as one of the most useless faithfuls #CelebrityTraitors [sic].';

'Poor Kate. They're like "We think you're a Traitor and we also think you're a terrible Faithful… and we also think you're stupid." Hahaha. She can't win.'

Kate's appearance on the show comes after she recently opened up on whether she will consider finding love again, following the death of her husband.

Derek fought a brave four-year battle against Covid before tragically passing away in January last year after suffering a cardiac arrest in December 2023, caused by the damage the illness had done to his body.

Almost two years since his passing, the TV presenter discussed getting back into the dating game.

Kate, 58, told The Sun: 'I don’t feel as if I can. It’s a weird one, because I wouldn’t like to think I’d spend the rest of my life without love, but also it feels preposterous at the moment to think of being with anyone else.

'What Derek and I loved was our home life and just pottering around, and we had 21 years of that, so mentally I am still in that zone.

'However, I do realise that, when the time is right, I am not going to meet someone in my living room, so I’m going to have to think about the future at some point.'

The Traitors continues on Thursday next week at 9pm on BBC One and is available to stream on iPlayer.
