Gwyneth Paltrow's pals went wild over her kiss with Timothée Chalamet
by MILLY VEITCH, SHOWBUSINESS REPORTER · Mail OnlineGwyneth Paltrow has revealed her friends' hilarious reactions to the viral photos of her making out with her co-star Timothée Chalamet on the set of Marty Supreme.
The actress, 53, stars in the upcoming sports comedy-drama opposite the Dune star, 29, playing his love interest, movie star Kay Stone.
And the two stars sent fans wild in October last year, when they were snapped filming a very racy scene on the street in New York City's Central Park.
The photos saw the pair kissing up a storm as Timothée grabbed Gwyneth's face and pressed her up against a brick wall.
And now the Oscar-winning star has revealed that the pictures bought her some serious street cred with her fellow moms.
Appearing on the cover of British Vogue, she laughed: 'Oh my God, all of my mom group chats were on fire. Everyone was like, "Yes, GP, get it!" I’m like, "Guys, calm down."'
While bagging the role opposite the handsome actor also earned Gwyneth the admiration of her daughter, Apple Martin, who reportedly has a crush on Timothée.
The Shakespeare In Love star reportedly was 'convinced' to say yes to the role, after her 21-year-old daughter learned that Timothée was playing the lead and pleaded with her mother to accept.
An insider exclusively told the Daily Mail in October: ‘Gwyneth signed on to co-star with Timothée in Marty Supreme thanks to her daughter, who has had a crush on the Dune star for years.
‘After reading it and loving it, despite having no major wish to act right now, she was convinced by Apple, who intends to be on set as much as possible.’
But in her interview with British Vogue, Gwyneth confessed that she herself didn't know much about Timothée prior to signing on for the film, despite the actor being one of Hollywood's biggest stars who has already been nominated for two Oscars.
She recalled that their first meeting took place at the costume test, and saw her peppering the star with questions, 'trying to get to know him'.
And she revealed the extent of her minimal knowledge of Timothée's life, as she admitted she was completely unaware of his high-profile romance with Kylie Jenner.
Although the power couple have been dating for more than two years, Gwyneth explained she had 'no idea' about his relationship with one of the most influential Gen Z stars.
The Iron Man star said: 'Everyone makes fun of me because I don't know anything. I was like, "Do you have a girlfriend?" And he was like, "I do."
'He mentioned that she had kids and I was like, "That's so cool. I really love to hear that from a young man like you."
'I understand a 45-year-old who has his own kids going out with a woman with kids, but it's a cool choice to go out with a young woman who has two kids.'
While reflecting on the revelation, she humorously added, 'I respect it. I think it's kind of punk rock. But my point is, I didn't know it was Kylie Jenner.'
Meanwhile, she also downplayed the speculated passion in the much-publicised sex scenes between her and Timothée in Marty Supreme.
The Oscar winner insisted that after watching the film in its entirety, the scenes are far less amorous than the kissing photos implied.
She said: 'When we were doing it, there was a lot of rolling around [but] it’s actually quite… palatable. [The sex] accomplished exactly what it was there to do.
'I would say that the nature of the relationship between Kay and Marty is very transactional. It’s quite cold. It’s not a romance, it’s like a transaction, basically.'
Marty Supreme stars Timothée as aspiring competitive table tennis player Marty Mauser, 'a young man with a dream no one respects, goes to hell and back in pursuit of greatness'.
The movie is directed by Josh Safdie, and also stars Odessa A'zion, Kevin O'Leary, Tyler Okonma (a.k.a. Tyler, the Creator), Abel Ferrara and Fran Drescher.
