Celebrity Traitors winner Alan Carr's new Channel 4 show 'confirmed'

by · Mail Online

Alan Carr's new Channel 4 show has been 'confirmed' for a second series before the first has even finished airing.

Secret Genius, which launched on February 1, is said to have highly impressed bosses with its viewership numbers.

The series aims to find people with remarkably high IQs who may not be putting their brainpower to its full use.

On the show, the contestants, who have ordinary jobs, take on various IQ sets set by Mensa - the world's oldest IQ society.

A TV insider told The Sun: 'The bonus is that despite being one of the busiest men in showbusiness, Alan would probably be able to do a second series.

'He has five different projects on the go for the BBC as well as three streamers, but C4 bosses are confident he can return to do a sequel. Along with co-host Susie Dent, he's seen as a crucial part of the series' success.'

Alan, 49, is currently one of the biggest names in British telly after the comedian's sensational - and arguably completely unexpected - Celebrity Traitors win in November.

The funnyman's had a packed diary since then and has been busy filming Prime Video's The F*** It List.

Not only this, but he's also set to begin filming his own property renovation show, aptly titled Castle Man, for Disney+.

Other projects in the pipeline for the star include a second season of the BBC One gameshow Picture Slam.

He's also set to team up with another familiar face - Amanda Holden - to film Interior Design Masters for Netflix.

As a result, it's anyone's guess about when Alan will have time to film a second season of Secret Genius.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Channel 4 for comment.

News that the show has been 'confirmed' for a second season comes after it was revealed that Alan could get an aristocratic title - namely that of baron.

The comedian reportedly has the rights to the The Barony of Ayton title, after buying Ayton Castle, for an eye-watering £3.25million.

After spending time at the iconic Ardross Castle last year filming Celebrity Traitors, the TV star decided to splash out on his very own baroque abode in Scotland.

The sprawling estate features a whopping 16 bedrooms, 160 acres of gardens and even its own miniature railway.

And Alan has big plans for the grandiose property, having signed a seven-figure deal with Disney+ to film a series documenting the renovation of the castle into a luxury hotel and spa.

But according to The Sun, the Chattyman star is also considering snapping up the accompanying aristocratic title that comes with Ayton Castle.

An insider told the publication: 'The opportunity came up for Alan to purchase the title along with the castle and, of course, why wouldn't he consider becoming a baron? So now he doesn't just own a castle, he could officially be Lord of the Manor, and can sign off letters using the new moniker.'

The source added that the funnyman finds the concept of bagging the esteemed accolade 'absolutely hilarious' and thinks most of his celebrity pals will get a kick out of it.

The property brochure for Ayton Castle states that the barony dates back to 1324 and confirms it is available to purchase alongside the estate.

It states: 'This is a feudal barony and was associated with the ownership of land and certain historical rights, rather than a title of nobility conferred by the Crown. Offers for the Barony are welcome through the Selling Agents.'

Alan first shared his plans to buy his own castle earlier this month, during an appearance on his fellow Celebrity Traitor co-star Jonathan Ross' chat show.

He quipped: 'I'm buying a castle. I'm having a midlife crisis. I want a turret to call me own. I'm in my turret era. I fancy a move and I loved being in The Traitors castle, so I thought, "I'm going to get myself one".'

The beloved comic added that he was feeling 'lonely' ahead of his 50th birthday in June and wanted the castle to become a place people would visit and that he could fill with animals like 'a big old zoo'.

'I'm 50 this year - I know I don't look it - and I just want one. I know it sounds very grand,' he said. 'I'm moving from where I am at the minute, I want animals there, I want a community thing.

'I'm lonely where I am. It'll be nice, having people come there and have a cream tea. I want people to come in and have donkeys and stuff everywhere.'

Secret Genius is available to stream on Channel 4.
