The Beatles land BRIT Award nod for their last ever song Now and Then

And now The Beatles have been nominated for a BRIT Award for a song written 45 years ago by the late John Lennon.
Announced on Thursday night, this year’s BRIT Awards see 70 nominees over 13 categories.
Nominated for 2025 Song of the Year was The Beatles' 2023 single Now and Then which was dubbed their last song ever.
The song originated as a ballad that John Lennon, who died in 1980, wrote and recorded in 1977 as a solo home demo but ended up leaving it unfinished.
After Lennon’s assassination, the song was considered as potential third Beatles reunion single for their 1996 project The Beatles Anthology, but due to production difficulties it was shelved for nearly three decades.
Then surviving bandmates Paul McCartney, 82, and Ringo Starr, 84, used overdubs and guitar tracks by George Harrison, who died in 2001 from the abandoned session.
The final version features additional lyrics by McCartney. Lennon's voice was extracted from the demo using the machine-learning-assisted audio restoration technology.
The song topped the charts in the United Kingdom, Germany, and Austria, and reached the top ten in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Ireland, Japan, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United States.
The song was first performed live by McCartney in October 2024 as part of his Got Back tour at the Estadio Centenario of Montevideo and has since been nominated in the 67th Annual Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and now a BRIT Award.
The Beatles first received a BRIT nomination in 1977 – the first ever BRIT Awards – despite breaking up in December 1974.
They won British Album of the Year for Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band as well as an award for British Group.
Other artists nominated for Song of the Year include Dua Lipa, Coldplay, Chase and Status and Sam Ryder, 35.
Nominated for the most BRIT Awards this year is Charli XCX, 32, who has received five, including Song of the Year, Artist of the Year, Dance Act, Pop Act and Album of the Year.
Dua Lipa, 29, has received four nominations as has group The Last Dinner Party.
A year for the oldies, rock band The Cure, which has been going since 1976, has been nominated for Group of the Year – their first nomination in 30 years.
Myles Smith, 26, who won the BRITS Rising Star Award in December, has been nominated for three awards.
And Jade Thirlwall, who has released her own music after separating from Little Mix, has been nominated for her first two.
Taylor Swift, 35, has been nominated for International Artist of the Year as well as for international Song, with the song Fortnight.
Beyoncé, 43, was also nominated for both of the same categories.
Last year solo female artist RAYE was the most nominated British female in BRIT Awards history after receiving seven nominations and went on to win six.
This year, the singer, 27, was nominated for just the one in the R&B Act category.
The gong this year has been designed by photographer and filmmaker Gabriel Moses and the awards night will be hosted by Jack Whitehall on March 1 at the O2.
One Show host Roman Kemp was replaced this year by the comedian after it was revealed that he stepped in last minute to host the 2024 show.
He was previously called as a stand in to replace Idris Elba, 52, who pulled out at short notice.
Whitehall has previously hosted the ceremony four times but hasn't been at the helm since 2021 as a result of his busy schedule.
