Harry Potter fans claim characters in HBO Max series are on Ozempic

The first official look at the upcoming Harry Potter series is here... but some fans have expressed their concerns after noticing that a major character's weight underwent what appeared to be a vanishing spell in the new show.

A new trailer and a slew of stills from the upcoming HBO Max show were shared online this week, but one in particular has raised eyebrows.

It showed Daniel Rigby and Bel Powley, who are set to play Harry's uncle Vernon and his aunt Petunia Dursley in the series, looking at a letter, presumably which had arrived from Hogwarts.

But some social media users were left stunned over the pair's slender appearances - a big change from the characters' descriptions in the book and appearances in the films.

'Ozempic epidemic has hit Vernon and Petunia Dursley,' one dismayed fan wrote.

'Why is Vernon so puny? That man needs to be hippopotemized,' joked someone else.

'Who the f**k is this skinny nerd,' another user wrote.

'OG has aura of an absolute a**hole while this new [version] just looks like a serial killer,' read another outraged post.

'Completely different vibe with the Dursleys now compared to the Dursleys back then,' said someone else.

In the films, Richard Griffiths played Uncle Vernon.

The highly anticipated HBO Max series, set to air later this year, will star Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.

The first trailer for the highly anticipated series was released earlier this week to a mixed response.

The trailer teases the very beginning of Harry's story, from being mistreated by his family, the Dursleys, to meeting the friendly half-giant Hagrid, before arriving at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

It also hints at previously unseen moments, including scenes of Harry attending a Muggle school.

At the start of the trailer, Harry's Aunt Petunia can be heard insisting there is 'nothing special' about him.

However, everything changes on his 11th birthday when he receives his Hogwarts acceptance letter - opening the door to a hidden world of friendship, adventure and magic.

But with this new life comes danger, as Harry is forced to confront a powerful enemy tied to his past.

Earlier in the week, the upcoming Harry Potter TV series dropped its first official picture to Instagram – and it shows the boy wizard preparing to play Quidditch.

The shot features Harry from behind, with the protagonist wearing his Gryffindor Quidditch uniform – which has 'POTTER 7' on the back.

Harry's Nimbus 2000 broomstick can be partially seen, while he heads towards banners displaying Gryffindor and Hufflepuff colors.

Excited fans took to social media to share their enthusiasm over the upcoming series.

One person commented: 'This looks better than I could have ever imagined!'

Another wrote: 'I have officially passed out. Someone help me up.'

A third penned: 'I'M SO EXCITED I CAN'T FOCUS ON ANYTHING ELSE.'
