Britain's worst burglar leaves Good Morning Britain star speechless

Britain's clumsiest burglar left a Good Morning Britain star speechless, as CCTV footage showed him falling from the ceiling four times. 

Journalist and presenter Ranvir Singh, 48, called it the 'worst burglary of all time' as she shared the footage at the end of a news bulletin on the breakfast show on Wednesday. 

Addressing viewers, she said: 'Finally from me – is this one of the worst burglary attempts you've seen of all time?

'Police in Durham have released CCTV footage of 50-year-old Andrew Pickering robbing a petrol station in Chester-le-Street.'

As Ranvir spoke, the footage showed Pickering attempting to climb up a ladder towards the ceiling to escape - only to land on the floor. 

She continued: 'They called his efforts inspirational because of the number of attempts it took him to get away. 

'He fell from a hole in the roof, which he'd created to get in. 

'A total of four times in a bid to escape before finally deciding to use the door. 

'He was eventually jailed for 12 months.'

Police were praised for sharing the footage on Facebook to a backing track of Strauss's Blue Danube waltz. 

Viewers reacted with delight, with one commenting: 'Oh goodness me I have not giggled this much in so long. The music and the grand finale at the end are a work of art.'

Another called it 'pure genius' and praised the 'brilliant editing'.

The video also showed detectives interviewing Pickering and his reaction as he is played the embarrassing footage of him repeatedly crashing to Earth.

At one point, Pickering knocked over his cup while being interviewed, leading one Facebook user to comment: 'Bit clumsy, isn't he?'

The break-in happened in the early hours of October 21 when he got in through the roof, dropped down into the store and ransacked the shop, causing damage and losses of £3,219.

Trying to get back through the roof, Pickering failed four times before locating a side door through which his accomplice, 46-year-old Daniel Reay, of no fixed abode, joined him.

Reay was arrested soon after and a black Ford Focus containing stolen goods was recovered. 

A forensic examination of the scene revealed a significant amount of blood - which was later confirmed to belong to Pickering. 

Last week, he appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court, where he was charged with two counts of burglary and sentenced to 12 months in prison.

Pickering's accomplice - 46-year-old Daniel Reay, of no fixed abode - was also charged with burglary. 

He was handed a community order, requiring him to complete alcohol treatment and rehabilitation activity. 

Reacting to the footage on Facebook, a user commented: 'Congrats to the interviewers, prosecutors and the jury for not breaking out laughing.'

In yesterday's Good Morning Britain, presenter Ed Balls seemingly froze up while live on air.

It meant co-host Susanna Reid, 55, swiftly stepped in as she instead read out the time as the show went to a break.

Meanwhile, Ranvir previously faced an awkward wardrobe malfunction while presenting the show alongside Kate Garraway.

The duo were joined by the broadcaster's resident entertainment expert Richard Arnold when Ranvir noticed the buttons on her dress had popped open. 

It left the three presenters in fits of giggles as Ranvir quickly tried to button up her dress, as her co-stars made a series of cheeky jibes towards her.

'Oh, my button has popped undone!' Ranvir said, turning her chair away from the cameras as she noticed the wardrobe malfunction.

Kate cheekily jibed back at her: 'Oh, hello!' as Richard laughed, joking: 'What, in anticipation? Sorry, Ranvir, wrong crowd.'

'You've got to know your audience, Ranvir,' Kate continued, as the cameras quickly panned away from the presenter to give her a moment of privacy.

Ranvir joked off screen: 'Although, everyone at home would have loved it,' to which Richard quipped back: 'I'm sure they would've appreciated it.'

Kate quickly offered a helping hand, holding up a sheet of paper with the headlines across Ranvir's chest, with Richard adding: 'Yes, cover her modesty.'

Buttoning herself back up, Ranvir continued to laugh as Richard went on to present the entertainment segment, before quickly getting her game face back on.
