Gavin and Stacey's Gwen finds love in final ever episode

Gavin and Stacey's Gwen finally found love in the series finale – and he is no stranger to fans of the show.

The hit BBC sitcom aired its final ever episode on Wednesday, revealing Gwen had been secretly involved in a romance with an unexpected character all along.

Throughout the episode, she had been sneaking off to various places and being tight-lipped about where she'd been. 

It was clear something was up, but no one could have predicted that the unlucky in love Gwen had finally found romance with someone no one saw coming.

As Jason, Stacey, and Nessa popped over to Gwen's place for a catch-up, they were left bewildered when she rushed downstairs with her hair a mess, clearly caught off guard. 

In a bid to divert their attention, Gwen offered to make an omelette for everyone, but things took a turn when odd noises were heard from upstairs.

Suspecting her mum was hiding something, Stacey insisted on going upstairs to find out what – or who – was causing the commotion.

It was then that Gwen finally cracked, as she addressed the group: 'I didn't want to tell you this way, but it seems I have no choice.

'The thing is, I'm in a relationship. I've got a boyfriend.'

Stacey and Jason were left stunned but thrilled to see Gwen had finally found 'The One.' 

But just when they thought the surprise was over, another bombshell dropped.

As Gwen called for her mystery man to come downstairs, it was revealed that her secret boyfriend was none other than Dave Coaches.

Stacey exclaimed in horror: 'Dave Coaches?!'

Fans of the show will know the moment was slightly awkward as Dave and Nessa previously dated.

Gwen then said: 'I know it's a shock and I'm sorry we didn't tell you, but we wanted to be absolutely sure because we didn't know if it was just... sexual.' 

Everyone began laughing as Nessa remarked to Dave: 'I know more than anyone what kind of bag you're packing and it's exceptional. I know.'

While many were pleased by Gwen's new romance, one member of the family that did not take it well - Bryn.

He stormed into the house yelling at Gwen and Dave, demanding she admit they’d been hiding their six-month romance.

Bryn ranted at Dave: 'From digging your festering claws once more into the flesh of this family? I know what you're thinking, Brin, but it's not like that.

'Here he comes, winding his way in like a rat, feasting on scraps under my brother's roof.'

In a heartfelt moment, Dave professed his love for Gwen, with the entire West family standing by in support.

The bus driver said: 'I'm telling you, Bryn, it's not like that.

'I love Gwen, I do. More than you'll ever know.' 

The news of Gwen's new relationship caused tension with Bryn and the rest of the family, but the atmosphere softened when Dave stepped up to save the day. 

He heroically arranged transportation for Smithy and the gang to Southampton Docks, allowing Smithy to finally confess his undying love to Gwen.
