General Hospital Star Anthony Geary AKA 'Luke Spencer' Dead -- Actress Who Played Laura Mourns His Loss
by Perez Hilton · Perez HiltonAnthony Geary, known for his iconic role as Luke Spencer in General Hospital, has sadly passed away.
According to what Anthony’s husband Claudio Gama told TV Insider, the soap opera star had gone in for surgery on Thursday in The Netherlands. Three days after his operation, on Sunday, the actor passed away. He was 78 years old. So sad.
Claudio told the outlet it came as a “shock” to everyone:
“It was a shock for me and our families and our friends. For more than 30 years, Tony has been my friend, my companion, my husband.”
Luke is one of the most popular characters in soap opera history alongside his onscreen lover Laura, who was played by Genie Francis. You may remember the wedding episode where the famed “LnL” got married — it’s known as one of the most iconic soap opera episodes ever.
Genie took some time on X (Twitter) Monday to reveal her special connection to her pal “Tony”. She said she “felt his life end” in her sleep the night before:
“This morning I woke up and went into my husband’s arms. In my sleep, my life was flashing before me and I was afraid of death. An hour later, I received a call from Frank Valentini, he told me Tony died. I immediately felt remorse, I hadn’t spoken to him in years, but I felt his life end in my sleep last night, and with it a big part of me, and mine.”
Whoa. That shows just how connected these two were.
She continued:
“He was a powerhouse as an actor. Shoulder to shoulder with the greats. No star burned brighter than Tony Geary. He was one of a kind. As an artist, he was filled with a passion for the truth, no matter how blunt, or even a little rude it might be, but always hilariously funny. He was the anti-hero, always so irreverent, but even the most conservative had to smile. Working with him was always exciting. You never knew what might happen.”
Wrapping up her tribute posts, the 63-year-old actress said:
“He spoiled me for leading men for the rest of my life. I am crushed, I will miss him terribly, but I was so lucky to be his partner. Somehow, somewhere, we are connected to each other because I felt him leave last night. Good night sweet prince, good night.”
What a tear-jerking statement. So, so sad. See her posts (below):
Our heart is with Claudio, Genie, and everyone else who loved Anthony. May he rest in peace.
