by Moronfolu Adeyemi · The Eagle OnlineNigerian visual development artist and character designer Uzoma Dunkwu has won an Emmy for his work on Marvel Animation’s Eyes of Wakanda, adding a Nigerian name to the winners at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards.
Dunkwu was recognised with the Outstanding Individual Achievement in Animation award for character design on Eyes of Wakanda episode “Into the Lion’s Den”.
The category was one of the juried awards presented during the first two nights of the 78th Emmy Awards.
The Television Academy confirmed Dunkwu among the Emmy recipients in the animation category alongside other individual winners from Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal, The Mighty Nein and Star Wars: Visions.
The 78th Emmy Awards were held over three nights, with the main September 14 ceremony hosted by Mariska Hargitay at the Peacock Theater at L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles.
Apple TV’s Widow’s Bay emerged as the biggest overall winner, collecting 14 Emmys across the three ceremonies.
At the main telecast, it won six awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series, while HBO Max’s The Pitt and Apple TV’s Pluribus recorded two wins each.
The Pitt won Outstanding Drama Series, while DTF St. Louis took Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.
Matthew Rhys made Emmy history by winning two lead acting awards in the same year — Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Widow’s Bay and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series for The Beast in Me.
