Harry Potter HBO Series Casts Arthur Weasley And Moaning Myrtle For Season 2

Casting for Season 2 of the Harry Potter TV series on HBO continues, and Arthur Weasley, Moaning Myrtle, and Colin Creevey just entered the chat.
According to Deadline, Rafe Spall is set to play Arthur, the eccentric and lovable patriarch of the large, impoverished Weasley family, a fellow who works for the Ministry of Magic and is obsessed with Muggle (or non-magical) artifacts. Meanwhile, Molly Hewitt-Richards will portray Moaning Myrtle, the ghost of a young girl killed at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry years before Harry Potter himself (Dominic McLaughlin in the HBO series) starts attending, and Jasper Ambrose is set to take on the role of Colin Creevey, an overly eager first-year student who won't stop bothering newly anointed second-year Harry.
With the show's first season, "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone," hitting the small screen at the end of 2026, casting announcements have been breaking for the planned second season — which I can safely assume will be titled "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" after the second book in the original novel series. Kit Harington is taking over the role of that story's Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwarts, Gilderoy Lockhart, after Nicholas Hoult stepped aside, with the roles of Ginny Weasley, Dobby, and Tom Riddle having been cast for Season 2 in recent weeks as well.
Rafe Spall could spend years playing Arthur Weasley in Harry Potter
With Rafe Spall set to play Arthur Weasley, a member of the family who's not properly introduced until we get to visit the Weasley home, the Burrow, in "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" (both the book and film), the clan of redheads who essentially take Harry in as a surrogate son is almost complete. "The IT Crowd" veteran Katherine Parkinson will play Arthur's loving but much more stern wife Molly, while Alastair Stout is the new Ron Weasley (one of Harry's two best friends at Hogwarts alongside Hermione Granger, who's being played by Arabella Stanton). The eldest siblings, Bill and Charlie, haven't been officially cast yet (which is puzzling for the latter, considering that he appears in the first book "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" during a crucial moment involving a baby dragon). We do know, though, that Ruari Spooner will play insufferable rule-follower Percy, Tristan and Gabriel Harland will play troublemaking twins Fred and George, and Bonnie Hill will play Ginny, the only daughter and youngest of the family.
Spall has a pretty lengthy commitment ahead of him if the Harry Potter TV show makes it through its entire intended seven season run on HBO, thanks to a pivotal plot point in "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix." (Spoiler alert for a book that came out decades ago.) As the dark lord Voldemort (a role that either has not been cast or formally announced yet) and Harry maintain an accidental mental connection formed when Voldemort tried to kill Harry as a baby, Harry has a vision of Arthur being maimed by Voldemort's snake Nagini and is able to save his makeshift dad's life. Spall is a great actor, though, so I'm not worried.
Moaning Myrtle and Colin Creevey both play huge roles in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
That leaves me with the other two major casting announcements to address: Moaning Myrtle and Colin Creevey. Let's start with Myrtle, a ghost with a rude nickname whose name is actually Myrtle Elizabeth Warren (yes, really) and who died 50 years before the events of the book "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets." At first, Myrtle just seems like a loud, obtrusive ghost who haunts a toilet in one of Hogwart's restrooms, but it turns out she's crucial to the entire mystery of "Chamber of Secrets." As Harry and Ron discover while poor Hermione is petrified by the monster that was freed from the Chamber and is terrorizing the school, Myrtle was killed by said creature, a basilisk, who can murder with a single look. Thankfully, in "Chamber of Secrets," students and faculty just get petrified instead of killed thanks to a number of convoluted scenarios where they "see" the basilisk without making direct eye contact.
Actually, that's a perfect segue to talk about Colin Creevey, a superfan of Harry himself who sees the basilisk through the camera he's always toting around and ends up petrified instead of dead. Though Myrtle and Colin reappear in later Harry Potter books, their biggest roles are definitely in "Chamber of Secrets," and actors Molly Hewitt-Richards and Jasper Ambrose have their work cut out for them. They're up to the task, though, based on Ambrose's brief work in "The Sheep Detectives" and Hewitt-Richards' appearances on British shows like "Code of Silence" and "Casualty." (Hewitt-Richards is also ... a bit more age appropriate than Myrtle's actor in the Harry Potter movies, Shirley Henderson.)
