Sartorially speaking, there are few rules on the Grammys red carpet. It’s a place where artists can wear elegant gowns or jeans, a tuxedo or a suit jacket with a hoodie underneath. You can arrive inside an egg (as Lady Gaga once did) or wear a small castle as a headpiece (donned by Jaden Smith last year). Some have tried to wear virtually nothing at all. It turns out that may not be allowed.

On what’s known as music’s biggest night, Bad Bunny, the Puerto Rican superstar who is nominated for six Grammys, including record of the year — made a statement in a corseted tuxedo, the first men’s design by Schiaparelli. Artists like Addison Rae, in a plunging white Alaïa dress; Sabrina Carpenter, looking statuesque in a beaded custom Valentino gown; and Tyla, in a slinky DSquared2 look replete with feathers, also made an impression.

And Chappell Roan kept up the “naked dressing” theme of red carpets past in custom Mugler.

We kept track of the biggest style moments — the good, the eyebrow-raising and the unforgettable. Here’s what the stars wore to make their entrance.
